Kalaignar receives AIFEC award!
By Moviebuzz Saturday, 10 October , 2009, 13:06The 9th All India Film Employees Conference (AIFEC) being held from 9 to 11 October in Chennai, had a grand function to confer an award on the CM of TN, Kalaignar Dr Karunanidhi.
The award, the first instituted by them, was titled Ulaga Thirai Sadhanaialar in recognition of the CM’s longstanding contribution to cinema right from the age of 17 as a multi-faceted lyricist, poet, writer, novelist et al. To date he has written songs for 18 films, 4 screenplays, 2 stories and dialogues for 51 films.
The award was conferred at a grand event at the Nehru Stadium in the presence of members of all the AIFEC states and dignitaries including Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan, Illayaraja, KB, Bharathi Raja, Rama Naidu, AVM Saravanan, Dasari Narayan Rao, Rajesh Khanna, Subhash Ghai, Mahesh Bhatt and FEFSI chief VC Guhanathan.
Sripriya was the compere. AVM Saravanan announced a donation of Rs 1.5 lakhs annually to the cine technicians hospital. Illayaraja sang a song in praise of the CMs contribution while Pa Vijay recited a poem enjoyed by all.
Several Kollywood actors including Vikram, Karthik Muthuraman, Vijay, Vivek, Vishal, Trisha and Sunaina were present along with producers, directors and character artistes. At the request of AIFEC, and citing the example of the Andhra Governments Chitrapuri housing colony for cine workers, both Dasari Narayana Rao and Guhanathan made a request to the CM for land to be allotted to film technicians in TN also.
Kalaignar then bestowed a generous gift for the FEFSI employees by sanctioning a housing colony to be called Oviyar Ulagam in a land to be allotted by the government and chosen by FEFSI members. Several welfare activities for technicians will also be held. The entire stadium gave a standing ovation on the occasion. The event was followed by a grand entertainment nite.
